Point of Sale (under Sales & Customers) is the register: ring up one or more items, take the payment, and hand over a receipt. Every POS sale writes proper sales-history records and adjusts stock, so your reports and inventory stay right without any extra bookkeeping.

Ringing a sale
- Add the items. Search by SKU, title, or author; each match adds as a line. Selling something not in your inventory (an uncatalogued book, supplies, a fee)? Use Add custom item: description, price, quantity, optional cost, and whether it is taxable.
- Adjust the totals. Apply a discount as a dollar amount or a percentage. Add shipping if you are sending the purchase (pick a configured shipping method to prefill the charge, or type your own). Tax calculates automatically, honoring each item's tax-exempt flag.
- Attach the customer (optional but worthwhile): the sale then appears on their customer page and builds their purchase history.
- Choose the channel if this sale is not ordinary in-store: book fair, library sale, or any custom channel you have added.
- Take the payment. Record the tender (cash, check, card on your separate terminal, other), or, if your payment gateway is connected, flip on Charge a card now and key the card to charge it through the gateway on the spot.
- Complete the sale. Print the receipt, download it as a PDF, or email it to the customer. New sale clears the register for the next customer.
Receipts, refunds, and history
Every completed sale becomes a receipt in View Sales, where you can look it up later, reprint or email it, and refund it (in full or in part) if the customer returns.
Invoices from the same register
Switch the register to invoice mode to sell now and bill later: same items, same math, but instead of taking payment you set terms and a due date. See Creating and sending invoices.
Who can do what: any staff member can ring sales and charge cards at the register. Refunds and cancellations are restricted to Admins or staff granted the payments-access permission.
