Everything you need to know about preparing image files: how to name them, how big to make them, and how long they take to appear.
How should I name my image files?
This only matters for bulk uploads; when you upload images directly to an item, the system names them for you. For bulk uploads, the file name must match the item's inventory number, with an underscore-number for additional images:
- 12345.jpg or 12345_1.jpg (image 1 for item #12345)
- 12345_2.jpg (image 2)
- 12345_3.jpg (image 3), and so on
How large should my images be? What resolution?
Aim for at least 1200 × 1600 pixels. The maximum accepted size is 2000 × 2000; anything larger is automatically resized. The website's picture viewer scales images to fit the customer's screen and lets them expand to full size, so bigger source images mean better zoom.
Web images do not need a DPI setting. If you export from Photoshop, "Save for Web" at High or Very High JPG quality is ideal. Need a hand with resizing? Contact us and we will walk you through it.
How long until images appear on my website?
Images are processed automatically after upload. They usually appear within a few minutes. If an image still has not appeared after 30 minutes, contact support@bibliopolis.com.
