Your store sends email on your behalf all the time: order confirmations, shipping notices, password resets, want-list matches, and any newsletters you send. All of that mail goes out through Postmark, a specialist delivery service we use so your messages arrive quickly and are trusted by the receiving mail servers instead of being pushed to the spam folder.
Two ways your email can be sent
1. From your own email address. Once your domain is verified (see Sending email from your own address), messages go out as you, for example orders@yourbookshop.com. This is the best experience for your customers because everything is clearly from your shop.
2. From our sending address. If your domain is not yet verified, we automatically send your store's email from noreply@bookrouter.com instead. This is an address we own and fully authenticate, so your mail is still delivered reliably. The only difference is that the customer sees our sending address rather than yours, with your shop name still shown.
What this means for you
You never have to do anything to get email delivered, that part is handled for you either way. Verifying your domain is an optional upgrade that puts your own name on the envelope. The next few articles explain how the behind-the-scenes checks work and how to switch your store over to sending from your own address.
