EU Customs Duty on Orders of 150 Euros or Less

Choose what your checkout does for EU buyers under the line: tell them, add the duty, or decline the order.

Release Notes Posted September 30, 2026

Since July 1 2026 the European Union charges customs duty on every parcel of 150 euros or less that comes in from outside, printed books included. AbeBooks handles its own orders; on your website the choice is yours, and until now nothing at checkout knew about it.

Open Settings › Shipping Options › Customs & International and find EU orders of 150 euros or less. You can leave it alone, tell EU buyers that duty may be collected on delivery, add the duty to the shipping charge and ship the parcel duty paid, or decline EU orders under the line altogether (the AbeBooks opt-out, on your own site). The line and the per-item duty are in your own currency. How it works.
