Illustrated; Bound magazines. No pencil or ink markings in text. One half brown leather and marbled boards. Small closed tears at top and bottom spine. Edgewear to top and bottom spine. Closed tear at bottom spine at front cover, approx. 2 1/2 inches. Shelf-wear to lower extremities. Corners bumped with leather missing at tips. Very small chips on top and side edges of front and rear boards with very small pieces of paper and leather (at corners) missing. The monthly issue for December 1859, with two full page steel engravings of the famous railway scenes, 'The Departure, Second Class Car' and 'The Return, First Class Car' depicting a young man leaving to make his fortune in the Australian gold fields, with advertising for ships departing to 'Port Phillip' and 'Sydney' visible on the wall behind his head. Godey's was a most popular magazine, with a fine blend of literary topics aimed at women and needlework and fashion.
