Small 4to, 8 1/8 x 6 1/4 inches, approximately 175 words; witnessed by Thomas Allen and two others (signatures indecipherable), docketed on verso "Bill of Sale / of / Violet." Tippett (1738-1828) married Susannah Glover, the granddaughter of Kesiah Glover in 1759; he was a Tory and was arrested by General George Clinton in 1776 for "practices and declarations inimical to American Liberty." Ante-bellum slave sale documents from the upper south are fairly common in the trade, but such colonial documents are quite scarce.
