The magazine was published for an African-American audience and featured reprinted works by artists such as Ray Bradbury, Langston Hughes, Erskine Caldwell and others. After Hugh Hefner first published Playboy in 1953, dozens of clones appeared. This 'African-American Playboy' clone was issued in June 1957. American pianist and journalist, Dan Burley was the editor. Burley edited many African American publications such as Ebony, Jet, New York Age and the Amsterdam News.
