"COLONEL CHABERT"... FROM A STORY BY HONORE DE BALZAC.

[Balzac, Honore de]: Libott, Robert Yale:

Hollywood: ZIV Television Programs, Inc., 9 [-18] March, 1953., [5],52 leaves, with many revises on colored papers. Quarto. Mimeographed typescript, printed on rectos only, brad-bound in mimeographed wrappers. Very extensively annotated in pencil and colored pencils (see below), light soiling and wear wrappers, else very good. A "Final Master Script" (though evidencing a blizzard of revisions) of Robert Yale Libott's adaptation of Honore de Balzac's story, prepared as #21B of the MY FAVORITE STORY series. Evidently the former property of one of the show's script supervisors, bearing very, very extensive annotations relating to camera angles, revisions in dialogue and stage directions, etc. The versos of the majority of the leaves bear annotations pertaining to camer p.o.v. and similar data keyed to the facing recto. Uncommon thus.

"Curry & Rice" on Forty Plates; or, The Ingredients of Social Life at "Our Station" in India.

ATKINSON, Captain George Francklin.

London: Printed & Published by Day & Son, Lithographers to the Queen, [1858]. Large 4to, original embossed terra-cotta cloth, backstrip & front cover elaborately lettered and pictorially decorated in gilt, gilt edges [82] pp. + 40 tinted lithographic plates, including extra pictorial title-page, each with guard sheet. A few plates with one margin trimmed and marginal soiling and creasing, suggesting removal and reinsertion; intermittent foxing; overall a good, sound copy of a book that is hard to find in its celebrated ornate original binding. First Edition, identifiable by the “J.B. Day” on the title-page and at the foot of the backstrip, later printings stating “Day and Son”. The author-illustrator was a captain in the Bengal Engineers and also published an account of his activities during the Indian Mutiny, as well as a volume of sketches of travel in northern Europe. The satirical plates, each with an accompanying two-page text, depict life at a British colonial station in India, with heavy emphasis on social and sporting activities, with several images of pompous dignitaries and of native life. The sporting plates include horse-racing, tiger-shooting, and pig-sticking. This work has gone through several editions down the years, most recently in 1999. Abbey, Travel (illustrating the binding). Hiler, p. 52. Schwedt, I, p. 47.

"The framing of Jim Garrison" [in] LA Star an unauthorized newspaper vol. III nos. 51 & 52 [two issues].

[Sprague, Richard]

Los Angeles: the tabloid, 1974 Two and one half folio pages total, in the two papers. This is probably "the other Richard Sprague," not the man who briefly headed up the HSCA. Both good investigators. Folio newsprint leaves folded to 15 x 12 inches, old secondary foldlines to tabloid size (but mailed flat, as they is now). Edgewear, mild browning, light soil. NB, sex pix throughout, amateur snapshots-in-the-living-room stuff, but may be offensive. Richard Sprague's "The framing of Jim Garrison" is, in the main, a treatment of the Pershing Gervais testimony, Also, vIIIn52, a long excerpt from Carl Oglesby's work-in-progress, the Yankee & Cowboy War, this focussing on Howard Hughes and "Hughes' link to Watergate." Plus shorter pieces: prosecution of "LSD chemists," Lyn Marcus (Lyndon LaRouche) and his NCLC brainwash cult, and a shortish "editorial" by Penn Jones on assassination training sites in Louisiana. Vol. III no. 51 has hip stuff like a review of a Dick Gregory book, an interview with Marcello Mastroianni, a reprise of the GM destruction of LA's public transportation system. The Pair:
