Columbia, SC: The R.L. Bryan Company, 1982. Wide 8vo. Burgundy cloth, pictorial dust jacket. xxviii, 183pp. Extensive illustrations, pictorial endpapers. Near fine/very good. Binding ever-so-slightly bowed; jacket a bit edgeworn and slightly rubbed, with small edge chips at corners. A tight and handsome first edition of this university history -- and a special presentation copy, bearing opposite the title page a specially printed bookplate presenting this copy of the first edition, signed by then-president James B. Holderman; below this bookplate, on the page itself, he adds "Happy Holidays / 12-82," and to the left of the bookplate a color "Hope You Like It!" gift card is affixed, giving this copy to family friends and signed "The Holdermans." (Holderman, you may recall, was forced to resign the presidency in disgrace in 1990, amidst charges of financial misdealings, sexual harassment, etc.)
