(Watercolor Alphabet).

Price: 2500.00 USD

1982. A lush 20 1/2 by 15 3/4-inch original watercolor painting of the alphabet surrounded by a thicket of leaves, tall grass, and wildflowers. Birds and butterflies flutter amidst the leaves, while a rabbit and a field mouse sit in the grass. The alphabet is painted in pale yellow, and it sits squarely at the center of the painting, in a clearing framed by the leaves and the horizon. Sarah Chamberlain is a well-known artist and book illustrator who studied with Barry Moser and Leonard Baskin and, for a decade beginning in the 1970's, ran the Chamberlain Press. Her work has illustrated numerous texts, from Aesop and the Brothers Grimm to Charles Simic, and many miniature books. In a blue mat and a simple oak frame. Very fine.
