Amantium Irae Letters Addressed by T.J.S. to Lord and Lady Amberly in 1864-67
Price: 1200.00 USD
Hammersmith: Doves Press, 1914. Octavo. Design binding. This edition was limited to 150 copies. Binding by Leonard Mounteney, who began his binding career with Riviere and Sons in London, worked for R.R. Donnelly in Chicago, and went on to found the Cuneo Fine Binding Studio in Milwaukee. Rebound in 3/4 tan hard grained crushed levant, with leather corners and patterned paper sides. The corners of both covers contain a rich gilt flower and leaf pattern, with red leather inlay. This device is repeated in a scroll pattern on both covers near the spine. Chartreuse watered silk endhseets and doublures. Spine decorated with gilt floral design and inlaid with red leather. All edges gilt. Some shelfwear, small losses resulting from lightly bumped corners, and a few small chips to head of spine. Significant offsetting to endsheets; else very good. Mounteney has outdone himself with this binding, featuring an especially attractive floral design to the spine. Very good.
